Standard building value - a value of a normal building from the same era and of the same size.The ranking value of a GB consist of 3 parts: Buildings points All the buildings in the game have a points value calculated basing on their size, era and type (event and premium buildings are a bit more valuable than other, standard buildings). The goods values differ depending on their age (the higher the age, the higher the value). The only exception is trading - goods spent there are not counted towards the ranking (to avoid possible abuses).
Goods spent Whenever a good is spent, its point value is added to the ranking (research tree, Great Buildings, sector negotiation and so on). Without the colony and the credits, you will no longer be able to explore for Mars Ore on the campaign map when your credits run out and your only way to get ore will be to make it with a synthesizer, which you will not want to have to do.Battle points All the battle points (from all battles you fight) count towards the ranking. So, just to be perfectly clear here: when you age up to SAAM you will LOSE YOUR ABILITY TO GET CREDITS because your Mars Colony goes away. Because it is a lot easier to produce Mars Ore using the campaign Map, it is advisable to collect as much as will be needed before aging up to SAAB. So, for example, there is a Mars Ore Synthesizer. The answer is that you cannot get trapped because in Space Age Asteroid Belt and above the players get access to different "synthesizer" production buildings that can produce each of the goods from Space Age Mars, including Mars Ore. In the answers below they don't really exactly answer the question.
Since Mars ore is required for research in both SAAB and SAV and possibly SAJM also, it appears that a player could be trapped in SAAB forever with no way to age up. So, it could happen that I player is unable to get Mars ore anymore because they run out of credits. To explore a Mars region for ore one has to pay credits.
However, wouldn't this cause a problem because with no colony, there is no way to get credits. I read in another post that the Mars colony disappears after a player ages up into SAAB.
